JUGULAR BLEEDING A RED-BACKED FAIRY-WREN
Below is a short video demonstrating how to take blood samples from the jugular vein of red-backed fairy-wrens. Most people take blood samples from the brachial (wing) vein for small birds like this, but the Webster and Schwabl labs have developed this jugular bleeding protocol to more quickly and easily get the blood sample. Former fairy-wren guru Willow Lindsay taught me how to do this!
