RICE CREEK BIRD OBSERVATORY
In May 2023, my students and I established the Rice Creek Bird Observatory banding station at Rice Creek Field Station. Generously funded by the SUNY Oswego Shineman Endowed Fund, our goal is to use banding data to learn about the species that utilize the field station both during migration and breeding. We band from May to September, and operate as a MAPS station in the summer. During the 2023 season, we captured 633 individuals of 52 species (512 newly-banded birds). During the 2024 season, we captured 610 individuals of 46 species (442 newly-banded birds). The banding station is open to visitors (both students and the public) and we are always looking for research collaborators! Check out the Photos page for more images.
